| Introduction
Genre Singing Arts® was conceived by Diana
Grasselli, international recording and performing artist
and director and chief vocal instructor of Chanson Voice
Studios in Minneapolis. Diana has made her way to the Twin
Cities via New York, Paris and Los Angeles where her many
performing, recording, directing, composing and music production
accomplishments have taken her.
Diana
has designed a unique and exciting workshop series for amateur
and professional singers alike who are interested in developing
a life-long musical, vocal, cultural, social and personal
understanding and skill through the exploration of the many
singing art forms accessible to us in our globally connected
and culturally rich world.

Workshop
Format
I.
Setting the Tone. Each workshop intensive begins with an
introduction to the instructors, their backgrounds and hopes
for the series, followed by a discussion/exercise session
focusing on the role of and beliefs surrounding singing
in each participant’s life for the purpose of establishing
a free channel of learning, participation and enjoyment
during the class series and beyond.
II.
Creating Historical Contexts. Each workshop presents and
explores the historical, musical and cultural contexts of
each music genre giving students a broad understanding and
deepened connection to each singing art form. This is accomplished
through lecture, discussion, audio-visual presentation and
through the performance of representative repertoire as
a class and individually.
III.
Demonstration and Participation. Instructors demonstrate
specific techniques and musical examples then encourage
students to put them into practice through specific exercises.
Students learn the skills to recognize and perform vocal
and stylistic distinctions of specific genres for uses in
their singing lives as specialists or fusionists.
IV. Putting It Together. By the end of each workshop, students
will have enriched their vocal and musical vocabularies,
strengthened performance confidence, and become more enlightened
singing musicians – personally, professionally and
culturally. |
