Chanson Voice Studios is hosting an exciting workshop for its singers and those singers and musicians who are interested in exploring the art of the contemporary song. This is a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to songwriting in the American Pop Song tradition, facilitated by professional songwriters, Gary Rue and Diana Grasselli which will be held in the Twin Cities throughout the summer and fall. What are the elements of a well-crafted song? What makes a song “A Hit”? How to approach lyric writing. How to craft a memorable and musical melody. How do lyrics and melodies work together to create a memorable song? What are common chord progressions and how are they used in the modern pop song? Exploration of the history of the American popular song by era, genre and artist. The business of music publishing and song placement. Tips for singers in how to choose a well-crafted song to express who you are as a vocal artist. Each class will give each musician an opportunity to discover his or her songwriting voice through games, exercises, listening and participation, collaboration, instructor and peer feedback, historical inquiry and out of class assignments. The class meets twice a month from Sept – Dec and offers singers an opportunity to gain experience performing material for their peers they are preparing for any purpose: lessons, repertoire building, auditions, concerts, recitals, recordings and performances of any kind. Each class will be accompanied by a professional accompanist and facilitated by Chanson Voice Studios Director, Diana Grasselli and will include a couple of Special Guest Master Artists! Because the class is limited to those who are participating, singers have a chance to gain valuable performance comfort and ease and positive feedback from each other, while gaining essential skills and added perspective from class instructors.
